Vinnie Miresse – Candidate for Wisconsin State Assembly 71st District

North Central Wisconsin (WXCO, WFHR, WIRI) – Vinnie Miresse retains his seat on the Portage County Board after the spring election in April. He is now First Vice-Chair and County Board Supervisor for District 1. Miresse has served on the board since 2017. A graduate from the Emergency Services Citizen Academy, Miresse learned directly from law enforcement, firefighters, and EMS personnel. He is also a UW-Extension Local Government Leadership Academy graduate. Vinnie Miresse said in a press release, “I am running for State Assembly because I believe that politics is a vehicle for improving people’s lives. In a time of increasing skepticism about the role of government in society, my goal is to inspire optimism, create change, and deliver results to the people of the 71st District.”

71st Assembly District

The newly drawn 71st Assembly District now covers parts of Portage and Adams Counties. This includes the City of Stevens Point and the Village of Plover. The district extends as far east as the Village of Amherst and south into Adams County to Badger Avenue. The western edge stops at the Wood County line and the northern edge at US Highway 10. You can see the full map here. Katrina Shankland has represented the district since 2012. Shankland is now running to unseat Rep. Derrick Van Orden in the 3rd congressional district.

Who else is running?

According to WisPolitics, two other people have announced they are running for the 71st Assembly District. These include William Scheder (D-Stevens Point) and Robert Pahmeier (R-Plover). The district performance is listed at 55.9% Democratic. Will Scheder recently won a seat on the Stevens Point School Board. Bob Pahmeier lost the Spring Primary election for County Supervisor District 17.

VINNIE MIRESSE ANNOUNCES CANDIDACY FOR WISCONSIN STATE ASSEMBLY – 71ST DISTRICTStevens Point, WI – Vinnie Miresse announced his candidacy today for Wisconsin State Assembly’s 71st District. With a track record of fighting to improve working people’s lives on the Portage County Board of Supervisors since 2017, Miresse is dedicated to seeking solutions and delivering results that cross the political divide.

“I am running for State Assembly because I believe that politics is a vehicle for improving people’s lives,“ says Miresse. “In a time of increasing skepticism about the role of government in society, my goal is to inspire optimism, create change, and deliver results to the people of the 71st District.”

A three-term member on the Portage County Board since 2017, Miresse has served on the Executive Operations committee, Judicial/General Government committee, and Agriculture/UW-Extension committee, and as chair of the Diversity committee. He is currently the chair of the Solid Waste Management Board, chair of the Portage County Healthcare Center committee, and is the vice-chair of the Human Resources committee. A graduate from the Emergency Services Citizen Academy, Miresse learned directly from law enforcement, firefighters, and EMS personnel. He is also a UW-Extension Local Government Leadership Academy graduate.

Miresse volunteers for the Midwest Renewable Energy Association, Central Rivers Farmshed, and CREATE Portage County. He serves on the CREATE Wisconsin advisory board which advocates for the creative economy employing a local sense of place and fostering community engagement through the arts, music, and cultural appreciation spurring entrepreneurship and local economic activity. He also serves on the executive board for the Wisconsin Counties Solid Waste Management Association.

Miresse has a bachelor’s degree from University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. He is a small business owner, focused on residential remodeling, specifically energy efficiency, building science, and local materials. He is also a practitioner of regenerative agriculture. Vinnie and his wife, Gina, lived in the Amherst area for many years before moving to Stevens Point where they currently reside with their two children.
