Apple Squares

3/4 cups Crisco, whipped
add 1/2 tsp salt and 2 cups flour, mix like pie crust
add 3 tbsp hot water, mix together
add 1 egg beaten
form into a ball and refrigerate for an hour or more

Roll 1/2 of the dough very thin and fit into large pizza pan. Put 2 cups of fresh sliced apples over crust and sprinkle lightly with cinnamon.

Combine 1 cup sugar and 2 tbsp cornstarch in a small heavy saucepan. Blend in 1 cup water and cook until thickened, stirring constantly. Add 1 tsp vanilla and pour mixture over apples in the crust.

Roll out other 1/2 of dough and cut slits for steam to escape and place over apples. seal edges. Bake @ 400 degrees for 10 minutes, then bake @ 350 degrees for 20 to 30 minutes more.

Frost upon taking out of oven with icing made out of 2 tsp melted butter, add 1/2 cup powder sugar and 4 to 5 tsp of milk. Add 1/2 tsp vanilla. Frosting should be quite thin. Pour over hot pastry. Cool and cut into squares. Good for a cool Fall after school or work snack.
